SCCM Package – ChemBioOffice

I’m making a series of posts describing the package creation process for the applications in my current lab image. This post is about ChemBioOffice.

General Info:

ChemBioOffice uses a standard MSI installer which supports the /qb switch. Licensing can be registered with a reg file provided by the Cambridgesoft support team.

  1. Visit the Cambridgesoft “Support Contact” page above and ask for a .reg file to license ChemBioOffice.
  2. Download the latest version of ChemBioOffice from the ChemBioOffice Downloads page above.
  3. Extract the downloaded media (cbdu1202.exe) to C:\temp\chembio
  4. Run the following commands to pull out the proper files for your source directory (note, these could change per-version):
    mkdir C:\temp\chembio2
    move C:\temp\chembio\Cambridgesoft\ChemOffice\CambridgeSoft_ChemBioDraw_Ultra_12.0.msi C:\temp\chembio2
    move C:\temp\chembio\Cambridgesoft\ChemOffice\CambridgeSoft_ChemDraw_ActiveX_Enterprise_Constant_12.0.msi C:\temp\chembio2
    move C:\temp\chembio\Cambridgesoft\SharedAddIn\SharedAddIn.msi C:\temp\chembio2
  5. Copy the contents of C:\temp\chembio2 and the licensing .reg file to your SCCM ChemBioOffice Package source directory.
  6. Rename the reg file to “importChemLicense.reg”.
  7. Create a batch file with the following contents named “Install-ChemBioOffice.cmd” in your source directory.
    ECHO Installing Chem Bio Office
ECHO Do not close this window. It will close when the install is finished.
    REM Main Install
    start /wait msiexec /i CambridgeSoft_ChemBioDraw_Ultra_12.0.msi /qb
    start /wait msiexec /i CambridgeSoft_ChemDraw_ActiveX_Enterprise_Constant_12.0.msi /qb
    start /wait msiexec /i SharedAddIn.msi /qb
    REM Licensing
    REGEDIT /s importChemLicense.reg
    REM Shortcuts
    IF NOT EXIST "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Chemistry Applications\" MKDIR "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Chemistry Applications\"
    move "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ChemBioOffice 2010\Chem3D Pro 12.0.lnk" "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Chemistry Applications\"
    move "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ChemBioOffice 2010\ChemBioDraw Ultra 12.0.lnk" "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Chemistry Applications\"
    rmdir /s /q "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ChemBioOffice 2010"
  8. Assemble the files into a single source folder then create a SCCM package and program. The program’s command line action should be “install-ChemBioOffice.cmd”. The following is a screen shot of my final source folder:

No witty messages today, sorry.
